Simplifying ROI

by Jeremy Stewart on July 20, 2012

Whenever I speak to clients, it’s always interesting to hear about the ways in which their intranet has helped them achieve a Return on Investment (ROI). So I thought I’d share a few of these stories which I feel are relevant whether you have an existing intranet or plan to implement one.

It’s sometimes the simplest things that make the biggest difference. Saving on printing costs is a theme that has been echoed by several of our customers. By placing previously printed documentation onto their intranet, they’ve saved themselves considerable amounts of money.

Rather than printing out bulletins, some clients have found that using our e-bulletin application has reduced design costs and printing. Other companies we’ve worked with reduced printing costs that information previously distributed in the form of hand outs and posters can now be viewed on their intranet, again reducing print costs.

A London based legal firm told us they had been distributing hard copies of news letters to over 500 members of staff. These, along with their business development updates are now communicated via their intranet.

In addition to regular communications, this organisation were printing packs for each of their 70 partners on a weekly basis. These are now securely stored on their intranet, meaning this vital information is only accessed by relevant individuals.

Others have commented that they’ve saved themselves development costs. As our software is customisable, not only have they been able to create new business specific applications, they’ve had the added benefit of being able to do it themselves.

However, I’d like to mention that ROI doesn’t have to be just about monetary savings. Simply having all your documentation in one place will drastically reduce the time your staff spend searching for information. Answers to general queries can be found on the intranet, as opposed to relying on responses from staff via email or by phone. So employees’ time is freed up for more pressing tasks.

After all, in the words of one of our customers, time is money.

Do you have any intranet ROI stories you’d like to share? Please provide your comments below.
